WASTE DISPOSAL

Living by the 3 R's (REDUCE, REUSE, RECYLE) is one of the best ways YOU can lessen your impact on the environment. 

Zero waste would be ideal, but in today's society, everyone produces some form of waste - the important question is what do YOU do with it?

Does it really have to go to the landfill?  Oftentimes, the answer is "no".  Many items should never go into a landfill because of their toxicity, other items still have lots of useful life left in them, or could be recycled.  Think before throwing away, and check out the ideas below to help point you in the right direction:

Community Recycling Depot 



Community Living Algoma (in partnership with Clean North and the City of Sault Ste. Marie) has opened a Community Recycling Depot offering free recycling of computers, televisions, and miscellaneous electronics (VCRs, CD players, cell phones, etc.)  Microwaves and styrofoam may also be recycled here, for a small fee.  Call (705) 256-2805 for more information.

The Community Recycling Depot is located at 285 Wilson St (near bottom of Bruce St hill).  Year-round operation, Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Garbage Collection Waste 



GT Waste Systems

Serving north of SSM; Batchawana, Goulais Mission, Obadjiwan, Heyden, Searchmont, Goulais & Commercial businesses with refuse pickup.  Rental of trucks & trailers for larger projects available.  For collection service or equipment rental, please call (705) 649-4540.

Collection Fee: $20.00 per month=3 bags per week for household garbage.
